Body Found in Rural Lee County Identified; Criminal Charge Filed

Aug 6, 2018

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has identified the body found along a gravel road south of West Point, Iowa Sunday morning as Sadie Alvarado, 20, of Muscatine, Iowa. The agency announced Monday that criminal charges have also been filed in connection with her death.

Damian Hamann, 28, of Morning Sun, Iowa is charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death. He turned himself in to the Lee County Sheriff's Office on Sunday.

The criminal complaint filed against Hamann states that he told authorities that he got into an argument with Alvarado, whom he described as his girlfriend, and she jumped out of his car. He further stated that he drove home to Morning Sun, which is about 40 miles away, returning after noon on look for her.

The DCI has not released a cause of death for Alvarado. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Iowa City.
