Carthage, IL – Carthage aldermen are waiting to see if they can move back into their former city hall. The city has offered $2,500 for the building that was the Carthage library until a few months ago. Mayor James Nightingale says it was the city building until the mid-80s, when the library moved in. The library has moved down the block into the former Marine Trust bank building. Nightingale says the move could give more space for city offices. It would also allow the city to stop renting space for the police department, which could move in with city offices. The library board is schedled to meet Aug. 17 to consider the city's offer. City offices are now in a small brick building near the Kibbe Museum.
