Macomb, IL – Illinois Republicans brought their "Common Sense Express" bus tour to the WIU campus on Tuesday. All six of the GOP candidates running for statewide office this year are taking part in the tour and each gave a brief speech at Western. The candidates criticized Democrats in general and Governor Rod Blagojevich in particular. The candidates also talked about campaign issues in general but did not offer any specifics, even when pressed by reporters. Candidate for governor Judy Baar Topinka said the funding plan for her proposals will be released on Wednesday. The event drew numerous local Republicans but very few students, even though it was held in the middle of the WIU campus.
