Keokuk Park Deal Nearing Completion

Keokuk, IA – A deal to sell several acres of one of Keokuk's parks is closer to completion. One year ago, the Keokuk City Council agreed to sell 3 acres of Tolmie Park to a St. Louis-based development firm for nearly $400,000. It appears the deal could finally be finished, though the price tag may have been reduced. Mayor Dave Gudgel says Westmore Realty Group's original plans for the property have changed, but the firm is still interested in purchasing the land. He says the city is now being offered $300,000. Gudgel says the city would have to approve the businesses that eventually locate on the Main Street property. If the deal goes through, the council has talked about using the money for economic development. That could include purchasing land. Some of the money could also go to help improve the parks.
