Quincy, IL – Public schools, park districts, and universities in Illinois can still get state money to buy automated external defibrillator. Two and a half years ago, Quincy Police Officer, Dave Ludwig, responded to an industry where an employee was unresponsive. Ludwig was able to bring the man, who had no pulse and was not breathing, back to life using the AED from his squad car. These AED units must be available in all indoor recreation facilities owned or operated by private business or public entities by 2009. Applications are still being accepted to receive grants from the Heartsaver AED fund. The money would pay half of the cost of one of the units. Over 375 requests have been recieved since August 1. The first applicants could receive their money next month.
