Group Wants Bike Path Around Lake

Carthage, IL – A group of Carthage individuals is working to raise money for a bike and hiking path around the lake at the town's Jaycee Park. Susan Boyer says blind curves and two-way traffic make the road unsuitable for pedestrians or cyclists. She estimates the cost of the eight-foot wide, one-mile loop at bout $100,000, depending on the current price of asphalt. She's holding fund-raisers and asking people to donate a truckload of crushed rock for the base course. Boyer is also investigating state grants. She'd eventually like to connect all the town's parks and schools with bike paths.
