Augusta, IL – Investigators say the cause of the fire that heavily damaged Southeastern High School will remain undetermined. Investigators also say they have not ruled out the possibility that human involvement played a role in sparking the fire, which started in the chemistry room. The investigation team included members from the Augusta Fire Department, the village marshall, and the Illinois Fire Marshal's office. The team says anyone with information about the cause of the fire should call the Illinois Fire Marshal's office toll-free at 800-252-2947. The fire on March 3, 2006 destroyed the three-story brick portion of the school, which dates back to the 1920s. No one was injured. The district is now using temporary classrooms at the high school site.
