Macomb, IL – Macomb Mayor Mick Wisslead says he is pleased with annexation negotiations between the city and the Georgetown Homeowners Association. The annexation would include more than five hundred people.
Wisslead says Georgetown would benefit if it becomes part of the city. Wisslead says residents would be allowed to run for city government and not have to pay a $300 a year library fee. Wisslead says the annexation would be good for the city because of "strength in numbers." Wisslead says an increase in the city's population might entice businesses to come to Macomb.
The majority of Georgetown residents must agree to be annexed. Wisslead says residents could have the opportunity to vote on the proposal in April. The annexation negotiations coincide with Wisslead's request to delay a $10 a month water rate increase for out-of-town residents until May.

Out-of-town residents currently pay a $10 a month water rate fee. The fee was supposed to increase to $15 November 1st and to $20 May 1st.
Aldermen Dave Dorsett and Tim Lobdell expressed concern about delaying the fee increase. A report explaining the impact the delay would have on the city's budget is expected at the next meeting.
