MACOMB, IL – A western Illinois Republican said the state could solve some of its revenue woes by becoming friendlier to business.
State Representative Norine Hammond of Macomb said the state made two mistakes when it raised the income tax rate on businesses. She said, "Not just to increase the corporate tax rate but then to pick and choose who's going to pay it and who isn't certainly sends the wrong message to any business that is looking to not only locate but to expand."
Hammond expects lawmakers will explore ways to generate more business activity-and state revenue-during the fall veto session.
Hammond said she opposes any more tax increases.
