Nursing Home Expansion In Keokuk Generates Questions/Concerns

Keokuk, IA – Lexington Square would like to add 14 more private rooms to expand its single-resident living space and to upgrade its rehabilitation capabilities.

The owner of the Keokuk facility says this is not an expansion of staff or beds as it will remain licensed for 126.

The addition requires a special use permit because the facility is located in a residential area.

The Keokuk Board of Adjustment is in charge of issuing the permit, based, in part, on the recommendation of the city's planning commission.

That led nearly 20 neighbors to attend this week's planning commission meeting.

Rose Roskamp says the neighbors are concerned about increased noise, additional traffic, and water run-off.

She says they want to see the addition take place, just not right next to their properties.

The owner of Lexington Square says he is willing to address the concerns of the neighbors.

The planning commission came up with a number of questions of its own during the meeting.

The panel would like them to be addressed in the very near future, especially the final scope of the project.

The board tabled making a request to the Board of Adjustment for the time being.
