A few downtown Galesburg buildings will get a fresh look with upcoming rehabilitation projects, partially funded by grants from the city.
The grant funds come from the city’s Tax Increment Financing District No. 4 and can pay for up to half of façade improvement projects for eligible properties.
Ward 7 Council Member Steve Cheesman said the city’s support is creating meaningful impacts for the community.
“This particular mechanism we have is an outstanding mechanism for everybody involved and it's nice that we have things like this. They really do matter,” Cheesman said.
The owners of the buildings at 221-223 East Main Street are planning to apply Dryvit stucco on both buildings in alternating vertical bands of brown and tan. This project will receive up to $18,000 from the city.
Tim Cramer, owner of 10 West Main Street, plans to replace windows and doors and make masonry repairs. He also plans to do exterior painting, stair restoration, and exterior lighting upgrades. The city will provide up to $40,000 for that project.
Construction for both projects should start in August. The East Main Street project will be completed in September and the West Main Street project will be completed in November.
