Burlington Municipal Band Concert
Burlington Municipal Band Concert
The Nauvoo Pageant Bagpipe Band is returning to the bandshell this week. Continuing what has become a tradition, the pipers will begin the evening at 6:00 PM, followed by a joint performance with our band at our usual 7:30 PM concert time. Please join us early for the festivities - we'll have a real Highland fling!
This week we welcome another "newbie" to the podium: Laura Westfall, who teaches 5th and 6th grade band and middle school jazz band in the Mt. Pleasant schools. Laura may be new to our podium, but she has played bass trombone in our band for several years and is also a member of the Southeast Iowa Band. A fifteen-year veteran teacher and native of Ft. Madison, Laura began playing in the Ft. Madison Community Band in 2001 and has enjoyed playing in community bands ever since. We are delighted that she has consented to conduct a concert!
Laura's remaining selections will include the following:
The Picador March by John Philip Sousa; Begin the Beguine by Cole Porter, arranged by William Teague; Mancini! - A Medley for Concert Band by Henry Mancini, arranged by Alfred Reed including Moon River, Baby Elephant Walk, and Hatari; El Relicario byJose Padilla, arranged by Philip Lang; Beauty and the Beast by Alan Menken, arranged by Calvin Custer, including Belle, Gaston, Be Our Guest, Something There, and Beauty and the Beast; On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss by David Holsinger; and our traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa
