Cambridge Community Theater Presents The Tragedy (Sort of) Of Romeo and Juliet

What happens when a struggling community theater bets everything on Shakespeare, only to have the production spiral into complete chaos? Audiences are about to find out.
Cambridge Community Theater invites the public to the world premiere of The Tragedy (Sort of) Of Romeo and Juliet, an original comedy by local playwright Tom Akers, on Thursday, July 23, at 7:00 p.m. at College Square Park in Cambridge, Illinois.

Set in the fictional town of Paradise, Michigan, the play follows the struggling Country Bard Theater as it desperately attempts to save itself with a production of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. But behind the curtain, clashing personalities, bruised egos, long-held grudges, and unexpected mishaps threaten to derail the production before opening night. Packed with quick wit, memorable characters, and laugh-out-loud moments, the comedy offers an entertaining look at the wonderfully unpredictable world of community theater.

The talented cast features returning performers Stephanie Taylor, Kelly Akers, Jack Brown, Carly Dale, Noelle Ames, and Evan Akers, whose energetic performances bring the colorful cast of characters to life.

"The cast is doing an amazing job putting together a hilarious, fast-moving summer play for everyone to enjoy," said playwright and director Tom Akers. "Everyone in the audience will find something to laugh about, that's for sure."

The outdoor performance is free to attend, with a freewill donation accepted to support future Cambridge Community Theater productions. Audience members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, enjoy a summer evening under the stars, and prepare for an unforgettable blend of Shakespeare-inspired comedy and small-town theatrical mayhem.

Whether you're a lifelong theater fan, a Shakespeare enthusiast, or simply looking for a fun night out with family and friends, The Tragedy (Sort of) Of Romeo and Juliet promises an evening filled with laughter, unexpected twists, and plenty of community spirit.

Admission is free. Freewill donations are welcome. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.
