Jeff Hicken at New Coppersfield's Book Service
Retired lawyer and Macomb native Jeff Hicken will bring his new book, See You in Court back to his hometown Saturday, March 23. He will be there from 10:30 A.M. until 12:00 and 1:00 to 3:00 P.M.
Mr. Hicken draws on his experiences practicing law to give a behind-the-scenes look at what happens in the courtroom -- and beyond. Learn how the law has changed in recent times, away from the unrestrained tyranical judges and collgial, but flawed, culture of the seventies, to the more professional, but boring atmosphere of present days.
Hear what happens inside court chambers, where judges and lawyers talk off the record about their cases and their clients. Meet the characters lawyers routinely deal with, some tragic, others comedic. Gain an understanding of how the system--flawed as it may be--functions as it was intended.
Jeff Hicken is a native of Macomb, Illinois. He attended Western High School in Macomb. He graduated from Cornell College of Iowa, and the University of Illinois College of Law. His father, Victor Hicken, was a professor of history at Western Illinois University, and an author of numerous books and articles, including Illinois in the Civil War.
He practiced law in Minneapolis – St. Paul, Minnesota, for forty-two years, primarily in the field of family law. He still serves as a mediator in family law.
He has published articles in the Illinois Bar Journal and Northern Wilds Magazine. See You in Court is his first book.
The event is free and everyone is invited.
