Knox-Galesburg Symphony Concert - Light, Lyric, and Lofty
Knox-Galesburg Symphony Concert - Light, Lyric, and Lofty
The Knox-Galesburg Symphony will present its second performance of the season on November 14 at The Orpheum Theatre. Justin Swearinger, assistant professor of music and Director of Instrumental Activities at Monmouth College, will conduct this concert that begins with the Overture to Mozart’s much-loved opera, The Marriage of Figaro. Next on the program is the flute concerto by Carl Reinecke – one of the most cherished works in the Romantic flute repertoire – featuring KGS principal flutist Paul Mizzi. The second half of the program will be devoted to Brahms’ 3rd Symphony, famous for the mysterious three note “motto” that opens the work and appears throughout, a motif that is thought to represent the lofty sentiment “free but happy.”
Tickets: $30–$35 (or $5 for students), available at galesburgorpheum.org, by calling the Orpheum Theater at (309) 342-2299, or by visiting the Orpheum Theater’s box office Tuesday through Friday between 10am and 2pm, or just before the concert.
