Multi-Disciplinary Artist Wes Urbaniak to Perform at Bishop Hill Creative Commons

Multi-Disciplinary Artist Wes Urbaniak to Perform at Bishop Hill Creative Commons

BISHOP HILL, Illinois—Crossroads Cultural Connections invites the community to experience something truly unique with an evening of music and storytelling featuring Wes Urbaniak on Friday, April 24 at Bishop Hill Creative Commons.

The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with an optional potluck dinner, offering guests a chance to gather and connect before the performance. Attendees are welcome to bring a dish to share if they wish to participate. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM.

Wes Urbaniak is not just a musician—he is a true craftsman and storyteller whose work spans music, instrument building, and writing. A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Urbaniak performs on many of the instruments he builds himself, creating a sound that is as personal as it is distinctive. His work as a luthier grew out of necessity and curiosity, eventually leading him to handcraft guitars, mandolins, and other stringed instruments—often using reclaimed materials such as century-old pianos.

That same creative spirit carries into his music. Urbaniak blends elements of folk, Americana, and experimental acoustic sound into something entirely his own—layered, textured, and deeply expressive. His performances often feel less like a standard concert and more like a window into an artist’s world, where every instrument, lyric, and note carries intention.

Beyond music, Urbaniak is also an author and thinker, exploring the philosophy and craft behind sound itself. His book The Experimental Pond examines how we understand acoustic instruments and creativity, offering insight into the relationship between maker, musician, and listener.

Raised in a nomadic environment and shaped by a wide range of life experiences, Urbaniak brings a perspective to his work that is both grounded and expansive. His performances reflect that journey—blending technical skill with raw honesty and a deep sense of exploration.

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections, this concert continues the organization’s mission of bringing meaningful, high-quality live music experiences to Henry County and surrounding communities.

The event is open to all ages, with a suggested donation of $20–$30, 100% of which goes directly to the performers, supporting artists and sustaining live music.
