Nova Singers and Galesburg Community Chorus combine to present Duruflé Requiem
Nova Singers, under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, and Galesburg Community Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Tim Pahel, are thrilled to present two performances of the Duruflé Requiem, Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 at First Lutheran Church, 364 E Water Street, Galesburg and Sunday, April 26 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport.
Nova Singers will wrap up their 40th season by combining with the Galesburg Community Chorus to perform this extraordinary major work with organ and professional orchestra. Consoling, uplifting and profoundly moving, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem is also breathtakingly beautiful.
Music Director, Dr. Laura Lane says, “I am thrilled that we are putting the beautiful voices of the Galesburg Community Chorus and the Nova Singers together for the very first time! I chose the Duruflé Requiem for this event because it is unbelievably beautiful. It has quiet, intimate moments that swell into huge, powerful climaxes. Every melody is inspired by chant, yet this is the sweetest chant you will ever hear. Imagine lovely melodies combined with impressionistic harmonies, spiritual inspiration and drama—that is the Duruflé Requiem! Nova Singers will open the program with a few of our most beloved audience favorites.”
Nova Singers, a professional vocal ensemble under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, hopes to share their musical soul with you. Nova Singers is known for the beauty and charm of their sound, and for the intimacy and playfulness of the concert experience for audience members.
