Sharing the Spirit of America: A Nation-Wide Reading of the Declaration of Independence
Sharing the Spirit of America: A Nation-Wide Reading of the Declaration of Independence
The Legacy Theater in Carthage, IL, is hosting a reading of the Declaration of Independence on Wednesday, July 8. The presentation will be followed by live music. This free community event is in conjunction with the national initiative “Sharing the Spirit of America”. The premise of ‘Sharing the Spirit of America’ is the simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence across the country, where Americans are reading the document ‘together’ at the ‘same’ time. Just as the Declaration of Independence was read to the people for the first time on July 8, 1776, now, 250-years later, Americans in all 50 States, 5 Territories, DC, and US Minor Outlying Islands will read the Declaration of Independence ‘together’. The Legacy Theater is one of the only locations in the tri-state area registered for this national event.
All are invited to join us as we celebrate this important landmark with other Americans across the world in a unified, positive, significant moment. Guests can expect an uplifting, patriotic experience featuring a live reading of the Declaration, followed by live music. With a start time based on 6 pm (EDT), commemorating the first public reading, the event will take place at The Legacy Theater at 5 pm (CST). Admission is free, and seating will be open. The doors will open at 4:30 pm.
