GCC Fall Season begins with our first night of rehearsals. We will be doing two concerts for this semester, one on Saturday, October 25th at 7:30 pm and the other on Saturday, November 15th at 7:30 pm. We will be hosting a community choral event, "A Festival of Voices" and performing "An American Tapestry", a collection of works inspired by American poets and composers, including Randall Thompson's "Frostiana" and Alex Berko's "Sacred Place". No auditions are necessary, just a love of singing! Fees for the semester are $15, students are free.

Every Thursday & Saturday from 8 am until Noon, the Macomb Farmers Market is held in Chandler Park -- with fresh local produce, eggs, honey, jam, baked goods, & flavored popcorn, as well as fresh cut flowers & live plants, and both personal care products & hand-crafted goods made by local artisans. On Saturday only, you'll find all that plus packaged meat, ready-to-eat brunch meals, on-site knife sharpening, free professional dog training, and live performances by local musicians.

Nova Singers, under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, will open their 40th Anniversary season with two performances of In Our Voices on Saturday, October 18, 7:30pm at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg, and on Sunday, October 19, 4:00pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.

This concert will feature an astounding variety of voices: great black American composers Nathaniel Dett and Moses Hogan, world renowned Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds (in a world premiere) and the unique voice of civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson in a thrilling and inspiring creation story. This amazing concert will also include a reunion of singers from the past 40 years!

Dr. Lane talks about the program: “What a joy it has been, discovering each of these pieces with the Nova Singers and falling in love with each one! The Moses Hogan spirituals are gorgeous and exciting; Make Me a World by Ruth Watson Henderson is incredibly dramatic; Fern Hill by Corigliano has a thousand moments of exquisite beauty that take you out of this world and into another; and our commissioned work by Ešenvalds is FANTASTIC! Audience members will also enjoy hearing the soloists, as their voices emerge out of the texture of the group, each in their own unique way. Finally, I’m so looking forward to alumni of Nova Singers coming up to sing Shenandoah with us. There may not be a dry eye in the house.”

Nova Singers, a professional vocal ensemble under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, hopes to share their musical soul with you. Nova Singers is known for bringing a wide variety of choral music to its audiences, and for the beauty, charm, sincerity and emotional power the singers impart to their music.
