Discover the Road to Freedom as part of Juneteenth. The event includes a discussion led by local historians and authors identifying historically significant sites important to the settlement and development of African Americans in Marion and Ralls counties.

The Jefferson Street Farmers Market offers the best local produce, baked goods, canned goods, plants, and crafts in the region, along with food vendors and live entertainment! The market runs on Thursdays from 4:30 PM to 7 PM, May 5 through September 26.

In partnership with the McDonough County Chapter of the NAACP, we’ll mark the Juneteenth holiday by reflecting on the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice in the 21st century.

The community conversation fosters open dialogue and collective reflection on how we can work together to create a more just and inclusive society. Our community conversations offer a welcoming environment where all voices are valued, and community members can engage in thoughtful and respectful discussion.

About the event
Canton's Juneteenth Celebration kicks off with storyteller WT Johnson, telling the story of Opal Lee - The Grandmother of Juneteenth. All ages welcome and refreshments will be served.

Presenting Sodbuster Days...the annual 3-day heritage celebration held June 6th to June 8th in Good Hope, Illinois…including a parade, back seat driver contest, fish fry, pedal tractor contest and fireman’s water fight, and more

Friday June 6th:
West Prairie FFA Pork Chop BBQ 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Firehouse
Opening Ceremony and Introduction of Grand marshals
Auction in the park/shelter house at 7:00 PM
Music Trivia/Trivia in the Park following the auction
Glow Parade at 9:00 PM with glow sticks and LED's available in front of the firehouse.

Saturday June 7th
West Prairie High School Boys Basketball and Good Hope United Methodist Church Breakfast at Good hope United Methodist Church from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM

Downtown on the Rushville Square
Vendor spaces are offered on a first come basis. The market begins on the West side of the square and spreads around the other sides as needed. Vendors may also set up in the grass but staking is not allowed, please use weights to hold your canopy.

Our Farmers Market takes place March – October every Friday from 7am-12pm and Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We also have a special Third Saturday Market. This market takes place on the third Saturday of every month from 7am-12pm.
