Western Illinois University Theatre and Dance has announced its 2026-27 season, featuring a lineup of classic theatre, contemporary musical theatre, original dance works, and a showcase highlighting the talents of WIU students and faculty. The 2026-27 season will take place in the new Goldfarb Center for Performing Arts, with performances in the Clow Theatre and Hainline Theatre, in Brown Hall.

This beloved musical is a high-stakes collision of every fairy tale character you know! INTO THE WOODS is an epic adventure with a Baker and his Wife venturing into a haunted forest to break a family curse, finding themselves entangled in the stories of a Witch, Cinderella, Jack (and his beanstalk), and a wolf-stalked Little Red Riding Hood. Along the way, "happily ever after" takes a turn.

You've seen him in A Soldier's Story, The Meteor Man, The Five Heartbeats, and most recently The Bear. 

Living the Shuffle is the amazing journey of actor, writer, director, and filmmaker Robert Townsend. Townsend, a natural-born storyteller, takes you on a showbiz rollercoaster ride of ups and downs from the dangerous streets of Chicago to performing Julius Caesar in New York City.

He also takes you behind the scenes of giving birth to his first film, “Hollywood Shuffle,” done with a miracle and a credit card. Townsend gives you a front-row seat, sharing life lessons he has learned along the way. This one-man show returns Townsend to his roots in the theater, where he showcases his uncanny ability with impressions and performs a cast of characters as you’ve never seen before. This edgy, vulnerable, and hilarious show will inspire and give hope to the dreamer in anyone.

This play tells the true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, as it explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries when women’s discoveries were usually discounted in favor of giving credit to their male counterparts. In this poignant tale of a woman’s dedication to the stars, the “ahead of her time” Leavitt ultimately makes a scientific discovery that has a profound and lasting impact on the field of astronomy.
