New City Manager for Burlington

City of Decorah
Cha Bird

The Burlington City Council is poised to hire the community's next city manager. Chad Bird currently is city manager of Decorah, Iowa.

The Burlington City Council has made a conditional employment offer to Bird, and will hold a special meeting Monday, February 8, at 4:30 p.m. to adopt the resolution approving the hire.

Bird has also served as city administrator of Adel, Iowa, and he has 16 years of experience in local government and administration.

He is scheduled to begin work in Burlington on Monday, April 5.

He was one of three finalists for the job.

Bird will replace Jim Ferneau, who stepped down after eight years as city manager to pursue a business opportunity in Council Bluffs. October 2 was Fereneau’s final official day as city manager, though he agreed to continue performing some of the duties as an independent contractor while the city council searched for his successor.
