Join TSPR for a weekly conversation about media issues. News Director Rich Egger and expert panelists discuss what’s in the news about the news business.

Americans' News Habits

An article on the RTDNA website reviews the latest global digital news study from Reuters. The piece is written by Vince Duffy, who is news director of Michigan Radio.

Duffy focused on three findings that he found especially interesting:

  • Americans still want their online news for free
  • Television still rules the morning news in the U.S.  Just 11% of Americans say their first news encounter of the day comes from the radio, and the figure is just 6% for newspapers.
  • Not as many people as you might think are getting news from partisan and alternative web sites

The Shop Talk panelists use that list as the starting point for their discussion about Americans’ news habits.
Shop Talk is a weekly panel discussion about journalism issues.  This week’s program featured Will Buss, who teaches in the Department of Broadcasting and Journalism at Western Illinois University and advises the student editors at the Western Courier; Jason Parrott, who is Tri States Public Radio’s correspondent based in southeast Iowa; and TSPR News Director Rich Egger.

Rich is TSPR's News Director.
