News aggregator at WIU: The Proxy Report
The Western Illinois University Department of Broadcasting and Journalism launched an online news aggregator this fall. It's called "The Proxy Report."
In a release, Western said the website was built to bring WIU student media created content together in one place online.
The release also said the site hopes to work like other news aggregation sites, such as the Huffington Post, by hosting content from NEWS3, the student-run news broadcast organization, The Dog, the student-run radio station, and the Western Courier, the student-run newspaper, along with original content created by students for The Proxy Report.
Students maintain the site and hope that it will grow in original content, as well as further integrate with the associated sites for The Dog and The Western Courier.
Shop Talk is a weekly panel discussion about journalism issues. This week’s program featured Will Buss, who teaches in the Department of Broadcasting and Journalism at Western Illinois University and advises the student editors at the Western Courier, the students at student radio station The Dog, and the WIU chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists; Rajvee Subramanian, who teaches in the Department of Broadcasting and Journalism at Western Illinois University; and TSPR News Director Rich Egger.
