The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) said a Fort Madison police officer shot and killed a suspect while responding to a call of a person armed with a handgun at a local manufacturing warehouse.

Two communities in the tri states are on the verge of hiring new police chiefs.  Announcements are expected soon.

The city of Fort Madison is acknowledging that it took disciplinary action against some members of its police department. But what exactly led to the disciplinary action remains unanswered.

The city of Fort Madison said Thursday it will work with a local landfill to make sure proper policies are in place following the posting of a disturbing photo on social media.

The Iowa Attorney General's office has completed its review of a fatal police shooting in Fort Madison. Scott Brown, Special Assistant Attorney General, summarized the office's findings in a four-page report dated July 12, 2016. Not only does the report clear the two officers involved, but it also sheds much more light on details about the robbery.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) reported Wednesday that the suspect in the robbery of a Fort Madison bank was shot and killed by officers as he tried to escape.

Matthew Munz, 34 of Wever, faces multiple charges, including two counts of assault on a peace officer, following a pursuit that spanned two states over the weekend. Fort Madison Police Chief Bruce Niggemeyer said his department was alerted Friday evening that Munz was being pursued by authorities in Hancock County.

Niggemeyer said a road block was set up at the BNSF bridge that spans the Mississippi River between Niota, Ill. and Fort Madison, but Munz was able to avoid it and some stop strips.
