Former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley (D) and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum (R) are on opposite ends of the political spectrum. But they brought similar messages to southeast Iowa this week: they need Iowa residents to prove the pundits wrong and help them shock the political world.

The second Democratic presidential debate took place at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa over the weekend. The campus is home to more than 4,000 full-time students and that's important to the candidates because young adults in Iowa vote 12% more frequently than the national average of 45%.

SCC’s outgoing president says what she will remember most about her time in southeast Iowa will be the “little things.”

Dr. Beverly Simone has been involved in community college education for more than 40 years, the last seven of which as SCC’s president.

She says the time has come to step away and spend more time with her friends and family.
