A mobile food pantry will be held on Friday, June 28, at 502 East Roberts Street in Colchester.
Distribution begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m., but registration starts half an hour before distribution.
“Everyone is welcome,” said Amber Clark, Executive Director of Samaritan Well. “If you are having food insecurity, you are welcome to come.”
Samaritan Well is a transitional homeless shelter in Macomb that is partnering with Western Illinois University College Food Pantry and River Bend Food Bank to host the mobile food pantry.
This is the fourth Mobile Food pantry this year. Usually, there are only four mobile food pantries a year, but Samaritan Well is doubling their efforts by hosting a total of eight. Several have already been held.
“When we did it at Western Hall in May we actually ran out of food,” Clark said.
Any food that is left over from the June 28 event will be donated to the WIU College Food Pantry. It’s located in Horrabin Hall on WIU campus and is open every Thursday in the summer from noon to 3 p.m.
“I think it’s important, not just on campus, but food insecurity everywhere, especially in the surrounding areas,” said Ayden Staniec, Vice President of the College Food Pantry.
The mobile food pantry has been an ongoing event for at least 15 years. Usually, Samaritan Well hosts four mobile food pantries per year, but this year there will be a total of eight between Macomb, Bushnell, and Colchester.
They have already had two in Macomb on the WIU campus and one in Bushnell.
The next mobile food pantry will be held on July 26 in Macomb.
