A former administrator of the Knox County jail is charged with felony theft, official misconduct, and forgery for diverting jail commissary funds for personal use and falsely entering funds to reconcile the commissary accounting system.
Knox County State’s Attorney Ashley Worby filed seven felony charges against Louis A. Glossip, 46, last week.
Glossip is charged with two counts of theft of government property of over $100,000, which are Class X felonies, and one count of theft of government property between $10,000 and $100,000, a Class 1 felony.
He’s also charged with two counts of official misconduct and one count of forgery, all of which are Class 3 felonies.
The charging documents allege that Glossip failed to keep an accurate accounting of commissary expenses and that he took more than $135,000 from the jail commissary system for his personal use in 2022 and 2023.
In addition, the charging documents allege Glossip committed forgery when he entered more than $214,000 into the Turnkey commissary accounting system, which manages inmate accounts and financial transactions.
Glossip is no longer employed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. His salary in 2023 was around $75,000. He had served as the jail administrator since at least 2015.
The warrant issued for Glossip’s arrest was quashed. His next court appearance is March 11.
