Macomb is moving ahead with a plan to install three E-V charging stations in the downtown area.
The city council approved the low bid of $23,485 from Galesburg-based AMP Companies to install the chargers. The price tag for three chargers from EV Energy Group, LLC is a bit more than $25,000.
But City Administrator Scott Coker says the project won’t cost the city anything.
“This was also covered from a grant. We’ve already received the money, $50,000 from Ameren to do this work,” he said.
Coker said he’s still finalizing the schedule for installing the chargers.
One will be placed at the City Center transit station, and another will be installed at Campbell and Calhoun streets, east of Gelsosomo’s Pizzeria.
A third was originally proposed for the south side of the courthouse square, but instead it will be installed in the northeast corner of the parking lot across the street from the Western Illinois Regional Council.
“I think we have three good locations that are all easy to get power to,” said Coker.
Motorists will not be assessed a fee for charging a vehicle. But users will need to download an app that will provide the city with some data about the user.
