SCC Names New President

Southeastern Community College has identified its next president.

The college’s Board of Trustees has chosen Dr. Michael Ash from a field of 30 candidates.

The trustees said, in a news release sent Friday morning, that the details of Ash’s contract and his official start date have not been finalized.

They will be voted on, though, during a future meeting.

Ash previously served as Executive Assistant to the President for Resource Development and External Affairs at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, MO.

Brian Roth chairs the Board of Trustees for SCC.  He said, in the news release, that “this has been an extensive search with many highly qualified candidates applying for the position."

“Dr. Ash was selected as the best candidate to advance the college’s mission of providing accessible, quality programs and services which promote student success and economic vitality with his energetic leadership style, administrative experience and vision for the future,” says Roth.

The trustees met behind closed doors for about two hours on July 31st after interviewing the three candidates.  The group chose not to make an announcement, though, citing the need for more information.

Current President Beverly Simone is set to retire in a couple of weeks.

It’s unclear if her contract will be extended to help with the transition period.

The remaining finalists were Dr. Dale Doty of Florence-Darlington Technical College and Keith Cornille of Madison Area Technical College.
