FM School District Accepting Bids

The head of the Fort Madison School District says the sale of the district’s former middle school is not the done deal some believe it to be.

Todd Schneider of Fort Madison has expressed an interest in re-developing the vacant building for residential use.

Superintendent Ken Marang says the recent vote by the school board to sell the school was not specifically for Schneider.

It was the next step in the process of selling public property.

Marang says he expects to receive an offer from Schneider in the very near future, but he says another individual, organization or government body would have the right to do the same.

Marang says the listing price for the former Fort Madison Middle School is $99,500.

The Lee County Board of Supervisors has talked about acquiring the building, without getting into a potential price or use.
