The Humane Society of McDonough County is doubling down on what it called an overwhelmingly successful fundraiser from 2014.
Patti Nemec of the HSMC said it all started when supporter Chris Brix offered to match all donations up to $1,000 in October of last year. The shelter called it the Brix Challenge.
“Basically, it was just a call out to the media, our members, and our friends, to raise money for the humane society during the month of October. Well, we ended up raising over $11,000," Nemec said.

Brix is making the same offer this year, but this time he has some company. Tate and Sharon Lindahl, also humane society supporters, are offering up $1,000 in matched donations as well.
Nemec said these fundraisers are crucial to the efforts of the HSMC because the organization operates purely on donations.
"We work in conjunction with, and in support of, the McDonough County Animal Shelter. So one of the things the humane society works hard to do is get the animals that are in the animal shelter into foster homes before their time is up at the shelter," Nemec said.
Nemec added that the money raised by this year’s

Brix-Lindahl Challenge will be used directly for initiatives such as:
- Spay-Neuter Programs
- Rescue/Foster/Adoption Programs
- Medical Needs
The HSMC is accepting donations through Saturday, October 31. They can be made directly through the humane society’s website, or checks can be mailed to:

Nemec said no donation is too small.
