Two Men Found Guilty of 2nd Degree Murder in Fatal Beating

Burlington Police Department
Markell Price (L) and Majestic Malone were found guilty of 2nd degree murder and 3rd degree kidnapping Tuesday in the death of Edward "Eddie" Breuer of Burlington in March.

A jury found two Burlington men guilty of 2nd degree murder and 3rd degree kidnapping for their roles in the death of Edward “Eddie” Breuer of Burlington. Breuer was beaten and left outside an apartment building in Burlington on March 17, 2019.

Majestic Malone and Markell Price will each receive an automatic 50-year prison sentence according to Des Moines County Attorney Lisa Schaefer due to the murder convictions. Schaefer said they will each have to serve at least 70% of their sentence (35 years).

Schaefer told Tri States Public Radio that she was pleased with the verdict. The two were originally charged with 1st degree murder, but after more than four hours of deliberation, the jury returned the conviction on the lesser charge.

Schaefer said in her opening statement that Malone and Price beat Breuer to death.

A third person, Stanley Baldwin, is charged with willful injury in connection with Breuer’s death.

Baldwin’s trial is scheduled to begin in about two weeks, but his attorney has requested a change of venue. Schaefer said her office has not reviewed the request to determine whether to challenge it in court.
