Officers from the Macomb Police Department, Illinois State Police, and the Office of Public Safety at Western Illinois University were still on the scene Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police are investigating a domestic violence and officer-involved shooting case at an apartment complex in Macomb.

Macomb police were called to the 900 block of North Charles Street, just off the campus of Western Illinois University, shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday.

A woman had been stabbed multiple times, according to a release from the Macomb Police Department. She was taken to McDonough District Hospital.

The release also stated that an officer discharged their weapon.

There were two fatalities. Police have not released further details about the fatalities.

Police Chief Jeff Hamer said the matter has been turned over to the Illinois State Police for a thorough investigation.

The involved Macomb police officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Hamer said Macomb police are cooperating fully with the Illinois State Police investigators.

State Police said that after their investigation is completed, they will turn over all reports to the McDonough County State's Attorney's office.
