During the month of March, The Alliance Art Gallery in downtown Hannibal is featuringvisiting St. Louis artist Alison Bozarth. Alison found her path in life quite early despite beingtold over and over that she couldn’t make a living making art. Right out of high school she setout to prove all those naysayers wrong. While still in high school she took part in an art program,Artworks, and made greeting cards. After graduating from Webster University, she created abody of work and began doing art fairs, often traveling long distances. She was chosen toparticipate in the esteemed St. Louis Art Fair Emerging Artist Program. This hardworking youngartist also worked a variety of jobs mostly art related as she built her business. Two years ago she convinced her mother to become her business partner and purchase a gallerythat became available in the University City-Delmar Loop area of St. Louis. They named theirgallery Artisans in the Loop. Her current body of work includes whimsical and illustrative paintings done with watercolors, colored pencils, alcohol inks and etching. Her pieces are a variety of sizes from large 30”x36”works sealed with UV spray and/or cold wax and as small as 8”x8” pieces. These delightfulpaintings have a special appeal to children and would be great additions to their rooms. The Alliance Art Gallery is also featuring member artist Drew Sutor in March. Drew started hisart journey much later in life. While serving his first job as a full time pastor in a church inPalmyra he was introduced to woodworking by one of his parishioners. He became especiallyinterested in wood turning that he did off and on until his retirement. He is currently activelyinvolved with a woodworking group in Quincy. His pieces include a wide variety of shapes but when asked about his favorites he said theyinclude vases and bowls. He can only use hard woods such as curly maple, walnut and one of hisfavorites, bloodwood, an exotic wood from Australia. Some of his most recent pieces include anew material, epoxy, bringing exciting opportunities for color and design motifs to his work. One of Drew’s pieces will be given away during the March Second Saturday event on March 14from 4:00 to 7:00. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE KILL DATE 3/14/26
Historic Chicago Songwriter at Hickory Ridge
Hickory Ridge Concerts welcomes longtime Chicago singer-songwriter Chris Farrell to the stage on Saturday, March the 14th at 7:00 pm at the historic Ellisville Opera House in Ellisville, IL for a rare downstate performance. For over 50 years Chris Farrell has been a pillar of Chicago’s famed singer-songwriter scene. He easily flows from ballads to satire, from comic songs to social commentary while always finding room for the sweet tunes you’ll hum on the way home.
Chris was originally booked for December but we cancelled the date due to weather and re-booked him for this Saturday. Please note; this is the second Saturday, not the the 3rd Saturday we usually are on.
Chris learned his craft by sharing the stage with the legendary acts of the '70s and '80s and emerged with his own brand of songwriting and showmanship to carry on this proud tradition. Presenting his finely crafted songs with solid clear finger picking, beautiful melodies and rich vocals, he adds stories and humor to offer a well-paced show and first-rate command of the stage that only decades of experience can produce.
Upon arriving in Chicago, Chris saw how well his blue collar roots in the coal mining towns of Pennsylvania fit right in with the city's heritage of folk songs and straight talk writers and journalists. He quickly found a home at The Old Town School of Folk Music and continued for forty-two years as one of the most respected faculty members in the school's nearly seventy year history.
The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is hosted by singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo. Concerts are usually (but not always) held on the 3rd Saturday of the month and begin at 7:00 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:00 p.m. The Ellisville Opera House is a second story venue however they do now have an elevator and is air conditioned. Coffee, drinks, and a variety of desserts are available during intermission. There is an admission charge of $10.00 per adults with children under 12 free. Hickory Ridge Concerts is supported in part by WIUM 91.3 FM, your source for NPR programming, local news and a variety of music, the Two Rivers Arts Council, The Illinois Arts Council, and the Doris and Ken Kolb Foundation
