Contract Approved for SCC President

Southeastern Community College’s new President is excited for the new opportunities awaiting himself and the college.

Dr. Michael Ash comes to SCC via State Fair Community College, where he most recently served as Executive Assistant to the President for Resource Development and External Affairs at the school in Sedalia, MO.

He was selected from a field of more than two dozen candidates to replace Dr. Beverly Simone, who is retiring after 40-years in the community college system, the last seven of which were as SCC’s president.

Ash says he has been impressed with SCC’s staff and facilities during his first few visits to the college’s southeast Iowa campuses.

He says he knew the college would be a great fit after reading the presidential job description.

Ash says one of his top priorities will be to meet the staff and students at SCC while also becoming active in the community.

He wants students to be both successful and challenged during their time in school so they are best prepared for the future.

SCC’s Board of Trustees made Ash’s employment official Monday night.  The panel signed off on his two-year contract, which includes an annual salary of $148,000 (pro-rated for year 1), full benefits and a $25,000 annuity.

Ash’s first day on the job will be September 1.
