DVIP Hosting 3rd Annual Souper Bowl in Keokuk

DVIP

The Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) served more than twice as many people in 2018 (156) as it did in in 2017 (66). The Iowa City-based organization said it needs the community's help to continue serving the region's residents.

The 3rd annual Lee County "Souper Bowl" will be held at the First Christian Church in Keokuk from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25.

DVIP’s Alta Medea-Peters said businesses and individuals throughout Lee County are donating soups and other items to the event.

“All the funds we raise at this event actually stay here in Lee County to support victim survivors here and providing them with the needed resources,” said Medea-Peters.

The resources, which are provided free of charge, include emergency housing, child care, court assistance and counseling.

Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased here. If you purchase a ticket, you can take home a commemorative bowl donated by local artists or individuals.

Children under 12 eat free.

Medea-Peters hopes the event draws at least 100 people.

“We get together, we laugh, we chat, we tell stories, we celebrate the work we do all while raising much needed money to help keep our services free in the community.”
