The Friends of Argyle Lake State Park will be hosting a ‘Arts in Nature’ painting class at Argyle Lake State Park at the park’s visitor center shelter.
West Prairie high school Art instructor, Jennifer Cordell will share her passion for painting while instructing participants in creating a nature painting.
The program fee is $20, as all materials and supplies will be provided. Locally handcrafted Amish frames will be available for $15 if you'd like to frame your one- of-a-kind masterpiece afterwards.

Our monthly lab is the perfect opportunity for young artists who want to explore the world of ceramics! This program offers makers the chance to create monthly projects or to simply follow their own creative inspiration through clay. Across the sessions, we’ll explore a range of hand building techniques, exciting surface design processes, wheel throwing opportunities, and hands-on glazing to create amazing projects.Our focus throughout the winter/spring labs will emphasize personal creativity, collaborating with nature, working in a series, and an introduction to alternative surface techniques. Come join us and make lasting memories and enjoy hands-on experiences in clay!
Session fee includes clay, glazes, use of tools and brushes, bisque and glaze kiln firings. Students are encouraged to return to the studio to glaze their work. Pre-registration is required and spaces are limited. Please register no later than the day before each session. Join us for our annual hemp harvest festival! Take our farm tour and learn all about our hemp growing and processing, and current research. Take pictures with the hemp plants and our antique tractor. Shop with local vendors, and harvest fresh hemp flowers (purchase required). We'll light up the firepit for some community socializing: music, food and smores- feel free to bring a chair and stay a while!

This free music event will take place on Saturday, September 20th from 5-8 pm on various porches and yards in the Historic District of Fort Madison. Be sure to come hungry and stop by one of the awesome food vendors. Bring your lawn chair to sit and enjoy one of your favorites or stroll through town and catch them all.
GCC Fall Season begins with our first night of rehearsals. We will be doing two concerts for this semester, one on Saturday, October 25th at 7:30 pm and the other on Saturday, November 15th at 7:30 pm. We will be hosting a community choral event, "A Festival of Voices" and performing "An American Tapestry", a collection of works inspired by American poets and composers, including Randall Thompson's "Frostiana" and Alex Berko's "Sacred Place". No auditions are necessary, just a love of singing! Fees for the semester are $15, students are free.
