The search for a new superintendent for the West Burlington School District appears to be in the final stages. Three finalists for the position are being interviewed this week.

The West Burlington School District is receiving interest in its vacant superintendent position.  School Board President Andy Crowner said this week that ten people have applied for the job. 

Results are in for the special election in West Burlington and the municipal election in northeast Missouri.

The West Burlington School District is making a major purchase that will place new technology in the hands of its students. At the same time, the district is preparing to ask the community for more help in paying for such initiatives.

It appears the West Burlington School District's first attempt at a 1-1 technology initiative will not prevent it from continuing to put new technology in the hands of students. For Superintendent Dave Schmitt, the decision is a "no-brainer."

Thursday, July 30 was the final day candidates could file their nominating petitions for the Sept. 8 school board election in Iowa.  On election day, county residents will have plenty of decisions to make.

West Burlington voters will decide on Tuesday, April 7 whether to give the local school district more money for technology. Superintendent Dave Schmitt said the money generated by a proposed tax increase is crucial to the district.

West Burlington is moving ahead with plans to demolish a former school.

The West Burlington School District has agreed to sell its former middle school to the city for just $1.

Superintendent Dave Schmitt says this is the best option for the entire community.

“We could have gotten $5,000-$10,000 for the building,” says Schmitt, “but then there could have been that risk that it become dilapidated or an eyesore for our community.”

The city plans to tear down the former school at 211 Ramsey Street so several new homes can be built, one of which would be targeted to low-income families.
