Galesburg will join an international art project this month when artist Julien de Casabianca brings one of his latest projects to town.
The Outings Project aims to recreate pieces from museums in outdoor spaces for the public to interact with. Other cities involved with the project include Tokyo, Moscow, and Jerusalem.
During his residency in Galeburg, de Casabianca will be installing a mural on the side of the Kensington Supportive Living Center downtown. The mural will be a large-scale recreation of the first piece bought by The Galesburg Civic Art Center.

Tuesday Cetin, Director of the Center, said that it will be one of the larger pieces he has created for the project so far. She added that de Casabianca will be participating in several community events, including working hands-on with local art students from Carl Sandburg College and Knox College.
Lisa Walker, coordinator of the Art Department at Carl Sandburg College, said her students are thrilled to be working with a world-renowned artist. She called the project “a perfect combination of community involvement and fine art and bringing the two of them together outdoors where everyone can see it.”
Julien de Casabianca will complete the mural between September 25-30. The public is encouraged to watch his process at The Kensington.
